I've been thinking a lot about wedding invitations and kept veering between thinking they're a waste of money and really wanting to put lots of work into some special DIY ideas!
The whole vibe for the wedding is going to be vintage focused. I think it's the perfect match to the venue, Lisnavagh (just need Paul to agree that I can sign on the dotted line to book it!). I've also been becoming more and more of a hippie in my old age and love the idea of using recycled or sustainable materials. I mean I actually have a compost pail in my kitchen - Seattle is doing funny things to me!
I've been pinning a lot of ideas that lean on the vintage side and exploring some gorgeous items on Etsy like these:
After looking into the idea of tea staining invites myself, I decided that if I'm going the DIY vintage route, I'd like it to be authentic rather than more on the "faux" vintage side.
So we've decided that we'll collect vintage postcards from this amazing shop here in Seattle. There are also loads available on ebay and etsy and you can buy them in pretty affordable batches if you're not too fussy about what you get. We'll focus on postcards from the 1920s and 1930s and use them as our RSVP cards for everyone to send back to us. I also hope to keep them relevant to important cities that Paul and I have lived in or visited.
Then I'll work the returned cards into a display for the wedding reception - maybe even putting them into photo frames like this idea (and I also love the bathtub full of ice idea!). Another idea is to have them as center pieces for the table using something like this card holder.
The other way I was thinking of being more "authentic" on the vintage vibe was that I purchased a vintage type writer machine on Goodwill Seattle's ebay site.

I've been researching a lot about plantable paper! I love the idea of our invites being used to create new beautiful plants that people can always think of our wedding when they see them. Through etsy, I found a great company in Seattle I'm planning on visiting.
