DIY - Bedroom Makeover

The house we bought is great - parts of it are done to an amazing standard (such as the expensive windows!) and others not so much. The house has a converted attic - which we love. But it was definitely not done with all that much love. One of the first things I knew I would do DIY style was make over the bedroom.

Here's how the bedroom looked while it was being styled for viewings:

Oh god that yellow. It's awful. There is no personality to it. There's no warmth. It's one of the ugliest colors I've ever seen. And to paint the closet doors the same color? Meh. Not for me.

So I set about teaching my Upper East Side Manhattan boy how to paint! And decided after many hours of Pinterest musings that I loved the idea of a darker blue/navy and white closet doors, with "barn" looking hinges. So Sunday evening we painted the bedroom with Benjamin Moore Bellbottom Blue and threw a white color we found in the basement over the wardrobe doors.

Here's the result:

Amazing what a lick of paint can do! I think the room looks so much cozier!

Be gone ugly yellow doors!!

We have our new bed arriving on Thursday from CB2 - the Dondra. We purchased it on Cyber Monday when it was 15% off and they'd added free shipping. I can't wait to complete the room (and no longer have our mattress on the floor!). I also need to get the cushions back on our lovely West Elm chair we've put in the corner (various animals having made it their bed in the last apartment!) and that we got as a floor sample in their "variegated stripe, graphite" color.

We'd love to put down wooden floors! I'm particularly in love with Shaw floors - and Paul is amused by the fact that Berkshire Hathaway owns them (his answer on our marriage prep course to who is one person in your life you look up to as a role model being Warren Buffet!!!). I particularly look the dark look of the hickory floors such as these:

Shaw flooring is available at Home Depot and Costco. It might be the next task that I have to teach my UES boy - how to put down floors!!
